Child protection overview highlights increase in sexual offences

The NSPCC’s latest survey of child protection in the UK has highlighted the increase in the number of recorded sexual offences against children compared to last year, and a significant increase in the number of contacts made to the charity. Of those who children who contacted Childline in 2016/17, emotional health was the main concern; with 8% of counselling sessions being about suicide. Of the contacts to the NSPCC, 72% led to a referral.
